'I started my career on this track' | Sha'Carri Richardson unveils track with her namesake at Dallas ISD's Kincaide Stadium

A ceremony was held for the renaming during the football game between Wilmer-Hutchins and Richardson's alma mater: Carter High School.

DALLAS — Dallas ISD and Olympic silver medalist Sha'Carri Richardson unveiled Sha'Carri Richardson Track at Kincaide Stadium on Friday night.

The track, which Richardson competed on when she attended Carter High School, now shines brighter as her name is on display in large, white lettering. Below her name is an additional piece that explains who she is and her accomplishments.

The unveiling was held during halftime of the matchup between Wilmer-Hutchins and Richardson's alma mater.

After the new displays were uncovered, Richardson shared some gracious words with the crowd.

"I'm proud to come out of the DISD," Richardson said at the unveiling. "I ran on this track. I can say I started my career on this track. So, for it to be named after me now, it's an honor. But it shows that I have a responsibility to Dallas. Where I come from continues to support me no matter how far I go. And I will never, ever, ever let people forget where I come from."

The Olympian is known for her unapologetic fierce attitude and pride in her hometown, which, is a major reason so many Dallasites and North Texans offer their support.

"That's Dallas and that's where I get my heart. That's where I get my mindset and that's just where I get my joy from as well," Richardson said about her hometown."I'm gonna continue to represent very well. As long as you guys continue to show me the love that y'all have been showing me no matter what."
