BEDFORD, Texas — A two-story apartment complex in Bedford was gutted by a fire Friday morning, according to the Bedford Fire Department.
The fire was reported at 9:15 a.m. in the 3000 block of Crystal Springs Street. When firefighters arrived they saw flames spewing from the roof of the eight-unit apartment building.
Within 10 minutes on the scene, firefighters say they had to pivot their approach after the roof partially collapsed.
One resident who was unaware his building was on fire had to be rescued and evacuated, according to firefighters. A resident's pet cat was also found and evacuated.
One police officer was treated for minor smoke inhalation; however, no other injuries were reported, officials say.
The city says they are working with the Red Cross to help the displaced residents.
"We appreciate the help from area agencies, including Euless, Hurst, Grapevine, Colleyville, Watauga, and Haltom City," the department said in a post on X, formerly known asTwitter.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
