RICHARDSON, Texas — Greenville Avenue Pizza Company is closing its only location outside of Dallas, the restaurant announced Thursday.
The small restaurant chain, known as "GAPco," had closed its Richardson location in December "to reevaluate the concept in hopes of opening this week" but ultimately decided to close the location, effective immediately, a post on the company's website said.
GAPco's original longtime location on Lower Greenville, which opened in 2007, and a second location on Peavy Road remain open.
GAPco's Richardson location opened in 2021 in the city's Lockwood District, a block off Belt Line Road and U.S. 75. The Richardson GAPco was the company's attempt at "something new, going with a larger, full-service concept," their website said.
But the concept "strayed away from their original brand concept," and owners Sammy and Molly Mandell decided to stick with smaller-footprint spaces aimed more at pickup and delivery orders.
"It's unfortunate, but it's really just a confirmation that GAPCo's original model works and should be the model moving forward," Sammy Mandell said in the post. "We loved being a part of the Richardson community, and you never know what the future will bring. We hope this isn't goodbye but a 'We will see you later.'"
