Red Cross deliver emergency cleaning supplies to flood victims in Crowley and Everman

"I rolled off the couch and put my foot in about 10 inches of water," said Kendra Fagan.

CROWLEY, Texas — Kendra Fagan has spent two days drying out her flooded apartment.

She and her neighbors lost almost everything during heavy rain over the weekend.

A loud noise outside woke up Kendra who had fallen asleep on the couch in the living room.

"I rolled off the couch and put my foot in about 10 inches of water," Fagan said. "I looked over and my whole place was just covered in water. My first instinct was to go get my son."

Kendra retrieved her 10-year-old son asleep on a cot in his bedroom full of water. Many of his toys were floating around the room. When she looked around the rest of the apartment, she saw a lot of their belongings floating from room to room.

"All my son's clothes, my clothes, our shoes, our refrigerator is not working now," Fagan said, "So we have no place to sleep, no where to put out food."

Fagan's car was parked in the driveway during the heavy rain. She found it full of water. What inspired her the most is her Bible was in the car and although several other items got wet, it remained dry and intact. One of her neighbors in the complex used his cell phone to record their belongings floating around their apartment too. Several neighbors stacked their furniture and other belongings on their patio hoping the sun would help dry them out.

Monday afternoon, American Red Cross volunteer Evelyn Gray and her crew delivered emergency cleaning supplies like gloves, brushes, detergent and buckets to Fagan and other residents.

"Flooding is devastating," said Evelyn Gray, "It's dirty. It stinks and the people have to be very careful about picking stuff up and cleaning it."

The American Red Cross is also helping flood victims in Everman devastated by the same storm over the weekend. After seeing the forecast for the rest of the week, Fagan said she realized she and her neighbors could be in the situation again days from now.

"It causes you to worry," she said. "Is this going to happen again?"

Still, Fagan said she leans on her faith.
