IRVING, Texas — Ranchview High School in Irving was placed on lockdown after a student showed another student a firearm Friday afternoon, police say. No shots were fired.
Irving police say a student showed another student a firearm that was in their backpack on campus shortly before 2:30 p.m. and the school was immediately placed on lockdown.
“Video surveillance showed that the student had left the school grounds before the lockdown was initiated, but officers are still on the scene making sure they do their due diligence to make sure the entire school campus is safe,” Irving police told WFAA. “The student was identified and officers were able to locate and detain the suspect quickly.”
Police won’t be identifying the student because the student is a juvenile.
Officers are releasing students from the school classroom-by-classroom, according to police.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
