DeSoto teacher wins Project Green Eco-Educator award

Patty Wallace revived the dormant garden at Ruby Young Elementary School
DeSoto grade school teacher Patty Wallace won the 2015 WFAA Project Green Eco-Educator award in the K-5 category.

DeSOTO — Every year, WFAA's Project Green initiative celebrates teachers who are "Eco-Educators" — going above and beyond to "go green" at their school.

Each teacher was nominated for leadership, creativity, and execution of projects educating students about protecting and improving the environment.

Our first winner — in the K-5 category — is Patty Wallace of Ruby Young Elementary School in the DeSoto Independent School District.

Wallace is a Dallas County Master Gardener who teaches 2nd grade science. She revived the school's dormant garden, and inspired many students to turn playtime into plant time.

Getting their hands dirty in the garden has given youngsters at Young Elementary a deeper understanding of where their food comes from and the importance of eating healthy.

ID=26601233As one of this year's Eco-Educators, Patty Wallace received $1,000 donated by WFAA Project Green and KHovnanian Homes to keep her project going.

Congratulations!
