Police investigating graffiti at Plano West High School

Police are investigating after graffiti was discovered at Plano West High School Monday morning.

Instead of having a case of the Mondays, students at Plano West Senior High School were left wondering who done it.

“Yeah there was some inappropriate things,” said senior Jamaine Wiley.

A host of foul gold graffiti was sprayed across the school’s gym doors and walls was first discovered just before 7 a.m. Monday when a parent was dropping off a student.

“There’s a lot of random graffiti,” said Plano Police Department spokesman David Tilley. “Some of it can be considered racial slurs, some that is profanity, some images that are very vulgar.”

Students were taking the vandalism in stride, taking pictures to show parents and even taking selfies in front of the markings.

“I think it’s stupid,” Garrett Calhoun, a junior, said of the graffiti. “I don’t know why people do it.”

Police believe it’s boils down to a school rivalry and said it won’t be tolerated.

“There comes a point when you cross that line,” said Tilley. “That line was crossed today.”

The punishment for vandalism like this can carry jail time up to two years and include a fine of up to $10,000.

Principal Kathy King sent the following message to the Plano West community:

I know that the vandalism discovered on our campus this morning has been the subject of concern for many of you. It was disheartening for the students and staff of Plano West to return to our school following the weekend to find vulgarities spray-painted on buildings, vehicles and other campus structures.
Campus and district personnel are working with the Plano Police Department to investigate this incident and to hopefully determine who is responsible for defacing our school. Now that crime scene officers have completed their work of capturing evidence, we are glad to be able to begin removing the graffiti from our campus as we continue our instructional day. Thank you for your support as we work to maintain a safe and welcoming learning community.
