DALLAS — Police are still searching for two 13-year-old boys and a 20-year-old man who they say are responsible for killing another teenage boy in an Oak Cliff-area neighborhood last week.
Luis Carlos Guevara, Jr., 15, was murdered near the 600 block of N. Denley Drive on Friday. The teen was robbed and murdered while waiting in a friend’s car attempting to sell some earbuds, according to police. Family members say the teen was planning to use the money from the sale to go to Six Flags.
A small memorial to Guevara is now growing on the street where the teenager was killed. Neighbors say they want to see the young suspects who were involved in the senseless murder off the streets.
“I heard shotguns,” said Rosalinda Strahan as she sat outside her home with a group of neighbors. “It happened so fast, I tell you that.”
Strahan and others are still stunned about the murder. She says the crime has caused some residents in that area to feel uneasy.
Police say Guevara and his friend were in the car when three people in a brown Dodge Caravan drove up to them. Investigators say a 13-year-old boy approached the car and fired shots into the vehicle hitting the victim. The suspects drove off. Police are describing the suspects as a 13-year-old Latino male, a 13-year-old white male and a 20-year-old black male.
“That was wrong to me,” Strahan said.
Guevara’s friend attempted to drive from the scene and crashed in a yard nearby. Workers at Eloise Lundy Recreation Center confirm one of the bullets went through a window at their building. The center is typically packed with children attending summer camp. Workers say, fortunately, the kids were away at a field trip, on Friday, and missed the chaos. The damaged window is now boarded up.
Neighbors say families are being vigilant about their surroundings, while praying Guevara’s family gets some sense of peace.
