'I'm joyful. I'm kind.' | Wednesday's Child 12-year-old Serenity looking for a forever family

Serenity has been in foster care for nearly five years and is looking for her forever family.

GRAPEVINE, Texas — Social butterfly, bubbly and polite. These are just a few words to describe today's Wednesday's Child, Serenity. She has been in foster care almost five years and would give anything for the comfort of a loving family.

WFAA met up with the 12-year-old at Hall's Pumpkin Farm in Grapevine. She nearly "had a cow" when she fed the cows who stuck out their long tongues for a bite of bread! But she says she had even more fun feeding the donkeys.

"These things have teeth," she said, laughing. The cows did not have upper front teeth.

Serenity loved feeding all the animals, including some alpacas.

She also went on an expedition through a corn maze.

For the last five years, Serenity says her life has felt a bit like a maze and it's been hard navigating all of its twists and turns.

"I always think will somebody adopt me. My thoughts always say they will. Maybe today is not the right time, but there will be a time," she said.

Serenity's advocates call her a social butterfly who's polite, bubbly and full of joy.

"I'm caring and always trying to help. I'm joyful. I'm kind," she said.

Serenity relies a lot on her foster mom.

"She's really nice. She's always there for me. And when I need to process, she can be there and she always talks to me," Serenity said.

Just like the feeling of calm she felt here at the pumpkin farm, Serenity says she wants to live in a home where parents speak life into her.

When she's at school, Serenity says she also finds comfort in her extracurricular activities.

"I'm in choir and art. I love my choir teachers," she said.

There's a song she sings in choir that Serenity says gives her hope.

"It's called the 'Old Irish Blessing,'" she said.

Her favorite lyrics from the song always lift her spirit.

"Until we meet again may God hold us in the palm of His hand," she said, quoting the song.

Serenity says she's grateful for those who have gotten her this far in life and she looks forward to the family who will one day call her daughter.

"I really don't care what kind of family. I just don't really care. I just want to get adopted. I just want a home. That's what I want," she said, smiling.
