Parents have a chance to land a new job during a North Texas back-to-school event

"We are looking for quality employees who just want to work," said National Door Industries HR Manager Rose Neill.

FORT WORTH, Texas — Ashley Blanco, the international compliance manager for Team Global, and her coworkers have lots of boxes full of free school supplies to help families in need this year.

Their company recognizes money is tight for some. They have stocked up on school supplies for their Aug. 10 back-to-school event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

"We have backpacks, notebooks, glue, pencils, everything the kids need to get back to school," Blanco said.

Team Global is a Fort Worth temp agency. They've teamed up with the Fort Worth Police Department and The HOPE Initiative to do more for parents. The HOPE Initiative brings together nonprofit organizations, community-based institutions, and business and philanthropic communities to significantly impact college, career and life readiness with traditionally underrepresented populations.

"Sometimes the parents are looking for work to bring in extra income, full income, maybe it's a second job," Blanco said.

So, Team Global will offer on-the-spot employment opportunities during their back-to-school event. It's much needed too, because a new survey by NerdWallet shows adults will spend an average of $541 on school supplies this year. About 60% of the parents plan to use their debit cards and 58% plan to use credit cards.

The back-to-school job fair comes at a perfect time for Rose Neill, a human resources manager with National Door Industries. They depend on Team Global to locate good people to send their way. Neill said she hopes it will help them fill multiple positions at her company right away.

"We are looking for quality employees who just want to work," said Neill, "We got anywhere from machining operators to shipping, if you don't like one department, well, I got another one."

The job fair is also background check-friendly. That means even people looking for a second chance after legal challenges can land a job. National Door Industries will also offer training for its skilled-level positions.

"Bring on Everybody," said Blanco, "Let's do this."

The back-to-school job fair will be held at Team Global, 3455 NE Loop 820 in Fort Worth from 10 am to 2 p.m. One attendee will even get the chance to win a free laptop and gift cards during a drawing during the event.
