Woman identified in deadly crash with City of Garland dump truck

According to police, the two vehicles crashed in an intersection.

GARLAND, Texas — A woman is dead and another is injured after they were involved in a crash with a City of Garland dump truck Saturday afternoon.

According to the Garland Police Department, around 12:45 p.m., officers and paramedics responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Pleasant Valley Road and Firewheel Parkway.

Police said when officers arrived, they discovered that a minivan and a City of Garland dump truck had crashed in the intersection.

According to police, two women were in the minivan during the crash; one was taken to the hospital and the other, 99-year-old Bessie Bell, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the driver of the city vehicle was not injured in the crash.

Police said the minivan failed to yield the right of way as it turned left onto Firewheel Parkway, causing the dump truck to collide with the passenger side of it.

According to police, the driver of the minivan remains hospitalized at this time.

Garland PD says this is an ongoing investigation.
