DALLAS — McKinney was ranked the fourth-best city for renters in the country in 2024, according to a report from RentCafe.
McKinney ranked fourth based on its "mix of lower-than-average cost of living, high-end apartments in top locations and quality schools," according to the report.
The report by the nationwide apartment search website analyzed three categories to curate its top 50 list: cost of living and housing, local economy and quality of life. Across those categories, rankings were further based on 20 relevant metric groups such as average apartment size, market competitivity, job growth and average air quality.
"With its small-town feel and a strong sense of community, McKinney is an ideal choice for renters who want to escape the bustle of the city without compromising on urban comfort. Boasting a variety of parks, farmers markets and local businesses — all centered around its historic downtown — McKinney is a big draw for both young professionals and students," the report said.
In the top 50, five more of the best cities were located in Texas. After McKinney, Round Rock ranked sixth, Austin was ranked seventh, Plano was 17th, Conroe was 31st and Denton was 38th.
Dallas ranked 57th among 149 cities with medium rental market competitivity and lots of business applications. The city ranked lower than McKinney in average apartment size, share of highly educated residents and of apartments in top locations.
