North Texas firefighter dies after battle with cancer, department says

The firefighter had been with the department since 2007 and was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, according to the department.

FLOWER MOUND, Texas — A North Texas firefighter died Thursday after a battle with esophageal cancer, the Flower Mound Fire Department announced.

Flower Mound firefighter James Bobbitt, 50, had been with the Flower Mound Fire Department since 2007. Bobbitt was diagnosed earlier this year in January, according to the fire department.

“James dedicated his life to public service, and we were all lucky to serve alongside him. His loss is felt deeply,” the Flower Mound Fire Department said in a post on social media. “Our thoughts and prayers are with James’ wife and children, his family here at FMFD, and all who knew and loved him.”

The Flower Mound Fire Department said additional details about funeral arrangements will be released at a later time.
