FORT WORTH, Texas — A Saginaw church let its senior pastor go, but now, the pastor claims he did nothing wrong.
Lake Country Church in Saginaw terminated Senior Pastor Scott Crenshaw for "looking at inappropriate material," according to Crenshaw's lawyer Mark Lane. However, Lane claims the accusations from the church are false.
According to Lane, he viewed the alleged "inappropriate materials," which he says was an Instagram search. However, Lane claims it was nothing inappropriate.
"The Church and Elders will be receiving a pre-litigation letter soon seeking restitution and damages for destroying Scott Crenshaw's career," Lane said in a statement to WFAA.
WFAA has reached out to Lake Country Church but has not heard back, yet. However, Crenshaw has been removed from the church's official staff page.
According to our content partners at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, this isn't Crenshaw's first brush with discipline. In 2016, Crenshaw was let go as senior pastor of New River Fellowship Church in Parker County after viewing inappropriate images on a church computer. Crenshaw confirmed the claims in a 2016 statement.
Two years later, Crenshaw was named senior pastor at Lake Country Church.
According to Lane, church elders initially voiced support for Crenshaw, then called about his termination days later. Lane says elders then backtracked to a sabbatical before officially firing him.
Crenshaw's firing comes amid a long list of controversies for North Texas pastors. At least a dozen pastors or staff members have been terminated or stepped down amid controversy this year.
The biggest name among them was Robert Morris, who resigned after admitting to sexually abusing a girl in the 1980s. According to the woman, Cindy Clemshire, she was 12 years old at the time of the abuse.
