GARLAND, Texas — Lakewood Brewing Company and Andy's Frozen Custard teamed up Saturday to build and break the record for the world's largest beer float.
Now, some may be wondering: What is a beer float?
It's pretty simple. A beer float is just a combination of ice cream and of course, beer.
Owner of Lakewood Brewing Co. Wim Bens, Belgian native and local SMU grad, realized the record for the world's largest beer float was held by someone in Ohio and it sparked some interest.
The original record, which was set in February, was claimed using 20 pints of stout and 36 scoops of ice cream.
So Lakewood Brewing Co. knew their team had to go big.
Using 50 scoops of Andy's World Famous Frozen Custard and 50 pints -- a full keg -- of Lakewood's Temptress, the No. 1 selling craft milk stout in Texas, the two businesses were able to claim the record.
“Andy’s and Lakewood are brands known for a superlative focus on product quality, using only the finest ingredients and selling what we have carefully made in-house,” Bens said. “Marrying the two to create one of the most iconic symbols of summer will be one for the record books.”
The first 100 people to come through the event were given a free Andy's and Lakewood glass to commemorate the historical moment.
Lakewood Brewing says it will have beer floats available for purchase all summer. Patrons are even encouraged to make their own at home if they want to buy Lakewood's beer in stores.
