NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas — Police are investigating at a North Richland Hills charter school after finding a loaded gun in the backpack of a second-grade student on Wednesday morning, officials said.
According to a statement from the school, International Leadership of Texas North Richland Hills K-8, the student told their teacher they thought there was a gun in their backpack.
The teacher immediately told campus administrators and the campus peace officer, the school said. The officer searched the backpack and found a gun with one bullet loaded into the chamber.
According to the school, the student reported that their parent had put the gun in their backpack.
Police are still on campus investigating the incident. Students and staff are continuing the school day.
