New route for the Fort Worth Stock Show Parade after hotel explosion

The explosion at the Sandman Signature Hotel in downtown Fort Worth necessitated road closures in the area, officials say.

FORT WORTH, Texas — The Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo has a new route for its All-Western Parade set for 11 a.m. Saturday after the explosion at the Sandman Hotel in downtown Fort Worth Monday necessitated road closures in the area.

The parade will begin at its usual location on Main Street and Weatherford Street south of the Tarrant County Courthouse, continue south to the Convention Center, turn left at 9th Street and left on Commerce (rather than Houston Street, which is closed from W. 7th Street to W. 9th Street), and continue north to Weatherford Street. Reserved seating will remain the same in Sundance Square. Reserve seating at the Convention Center will move one block east on 9th Street.

Officials are still investigating the explosion at the Sandman Signature Hotel at 810 Houston Street Monday.

"To ensure safe and successful events in Downtown Fort Worth in the coming days, the Fort Worth Police Department’s Special Event/Emergency Response (SEER) and the Public Events Department are working with parade organizers on adjusted parade routes that avoid the immediate area of the Sandman Hotel. Changes to parade routes will be communicated by the respective parade organizers. Any cancellations due to weather would also be communicated by parade organizers. Emergency personnel will be on site for both events to keep parade viewers out of the restricted area,” Fort Worth police said Wednesday before the announcement of the new route.

The Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo runs from Jan. 12 to Feb. 3 at the Will Rogers Memorial Center and Dickies Arena. For more information, visit the event website.
