CROWLEY, Texas — Multiple people reportedly passed out at Richard J. Allie Middle School in Crowley on Saturday evening, according to the Crowley Fire Department.
In a Facebook post, the department said Battalion 54, Engine 54 and Medic 54 responded to the report of multiple unconscious people at 1033 McCart Avenue before 7 p.m.
The incident occurred during a non-district event inside of the school that ran past its scheduled time, Crowley ISD said in a statement. The air conditioning inside the school was working correctly and was scheduled to run during the event's scheduled time, from 7:40 a.m. to 4 p.m.
"We are working with event organizers who rented the school to investigate the incident," the release states.
According to the department, five people were treated at the scene with heat-related injuries. One person was taken to the hospital for further treatment and the other four were treated at the scene.
The department said it requested Crowley ISD and Crowley PD to assist with evacuating the building.
The Crowley Fire Department did not elaborate on how heat played a role in the incident or who the patients were.
