ANNA, Texas — The northbound lanes along the U.S. 75 in Anna are closed after a major accident that resulted in the deaths of four people, Anna police said.
Four vehicles were involved in the accident that happened around 3:30 p.m. Friday, on northbound U.S 75 in Anna just north of FM 455.
The four people killed were all in the same car. Along with four fatalities, at least three other people were injured and taken to the hospital for treatment, officials said.
"Our thoughts are with the families of those affected by this tragic accident," Anna PD said.
The four killed were identified as Lokesh Palacharla, 29, Aryan Raghunatt Orampat, 25, Dharshini Vaslodevan, 23, and a 28-year-old man, officials say.
Multiple agencies are responding to the scene including Anna Fire Rescue, Weston Fire and the Mckinney Fire Department. DPS has been assisting with drone mapping, police said.
As Labor Day weekend travel gets underway, traffic is backed up for miles and TxDOT said drivers on the highway can exit at White Street.
Anna PD said in a news release, "While the incident is currently under investigation, we have heard from TxDOT that they did not allow contractors to have any lane closures today due to the holiday traffic for Labor Day Weekend. They were not working at the time of the crash.”
