CEDAR HILL, Texas — Dallas County Health and Human Services (DCHHS) confirmed mosquito samples taken from Cedar Hill have tested positive for West Nile Virus.
According to DCHHS, mosquito abatement teams are going to conduct treatment in the area to hopefully exterminate immature mosquitos with larvicides.
"We're in the early stages of the mosquito season in Dallas County, and residents should consider taking precautions when spending time outdoor," Director of DCHSS Dr. Phillip Huang stated.
Huang and the DCHSS recommend that residents follow the four Ds to prevent the contraction of West Nile Virus:
- DEET: Utilize bug repellants that contain the active ingredient DEET and follow label instructions.
- DRESS: Long, loose and light-colored clothing should be worn.
- DRAIN: Get rid of any standing water in or around your home.
- DUSK to DAWN: Limit time outdoors as mosquitos are most active from dusk to dawn.
According to the DCHHS Mosquito Control map, the affected Cedar Hill area is scheduled for spray treatment beginning at 9 p.m. on both Thursday, May 23 and Friday, May 24.
