FORT WORTH, Texas — The city of Fort Worth Friday released more information about their investigation into a data breach last summer. Information filed with the state attorney general's office shows 429 people were affected in the data breach.
In a news release Friday, city officials said they engaged a cybersecurity firm to assist in their investigation into the June 11, 2023, incident.
“The investigation determined that between June 11, 2023, and June 24, 2023, an unauthorized third party gained access to an account used to access a city application,” the press release said. “The application relates to various maintenance and construction projects managed by the city of Fort Worth.”
A review of data in the account found that reports from motor vehicle accidents were among the data impacted. Some of the reports included data like driver’s license numbers, birth dates, and “limited medical information regarding injuries and emergency transport.”
The city enhanced security protocols in response to the incident, according to the press release.
The city notified those who may have been impacted and set up a dedicated call center at 1-800-405-6108 available between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Monday-Friday.
The data breach in Fort Worth came nearly two months after Dallas’ ransomware attack.
