Wrong-way crash in Midlothian kills two, injures two others, police say

Police said they got a report of a vehicle traveling north in the southbound lanes of U.S. 287 at midnight on Saturday.

MIDLOTHIAN, Texas — Two women have died and two other people were injured in a wrong-way crash that happened early Saturday morning, according to Midlothian police.

A MPD Traffic Commander tells WFAA that officers were dispatched right at midnight after getting a report of a vehicle going north in the southbound lanes of Highway 287 near Waxahachie.

Before police arrived to the scene, they were told that the wrong-way vehicle had crashed head-on into another vehicle. The commander said the crash happened in the 3800 block of U.S. 287, just past Walnut Grove and Plainview roads. 

Police arrived to the scene and reportedly saw one of the vehicles had caught fire.

The suspected wrong-way driver and one of the passengers were pronounced dead at the scene. Police identified the victims as 38-year-olds Lakeshia Savala and Joanna Cain.

Police said another passenger in the wrong-way vehicle and the driver of the other vehicle were flown to a hospital in critical condition.

No other information is available at this time.
