MESQUITE, Texas — A suspect was struck multiple times in a police shooting during a foot chase in Mesquite on Monday morning, police officials said.
The incident happened shortly before 3 a.m. near Interstate 30 and Sorrento Boulevard, according to a police news release.
Officers in the area heard gunfire coming from eastbound I-30, police said, and then saw a vehicle exiting to Gus Thomasson Road "at a high rate of speed."
When the vehicle exited, it tried to use the turnaround under the highway to head west on I-30 but the driver lost control and wrecked, police said.
Four males got out of the vehicle and ran away. As an officer chased one of the suspects on foot, "an officer-involved shooting occurred," and the suspect was struck multiple times, police said.
The suspect was taken to a hospital and was said to be in stable condition, but police did not release more details about their condition.
Police said a gun was recovered from the scene but did not say specifically from where.
Two of the other suspects were arrested. A fourth suspect was not found.
The Dallas County District Attorney's Office's Public Integrity Unit will review the shooting, police said.
The officer involved in the shooting has been with the Mesquite Police Department for five years, officials said.
