MELISSA, Texas — A 17-year-old girl was hit and killed by a car in Melissa on Wednesday, officials said.
The incident happened in the area of Texas 121 and Liberty Way. Officials in a news release said the victim was hit by a vehicle and got trapped underneath it shortly before 6 p.m.
She died as a result of her injuries, the release said.
The victim's name has not been released. More information about how the crash happened was not released.
"Our hearts go out to the victim's family and loved ones during this difficult time," the city news release said. "We encourage drivers and pedestrians to stay alert and considerate when sharing the roads, particularly in high-traffic areas."
