A McKinney councilman has been cleared of a felony family violence charge after a Collin County grand jury declined to indict him this week.
La'Shadion Shemwell, 32, was no-billed on a third-degree felony charge of continuous violence against the family. He was arrested in December after a woman he was dating accused him of assaulting her multiple times.
Shemwell denied the assault allegations in a Facebook post, calling the accusations "bully tactics."
Before his December arrest, Shemwell had accused a McKinney police officer of racially profiling him during a traffic stop earlier in 2018.
Shemwell represents McKinney’s District 1.
Last year he accused a McKinney police officer of racial profiling after he was pulled over and arrested for refusing to sign a speeding ticket.
After watching body camera footage of his arrest, Shemwell said he handled things poorly.
