McKinney baseball field honors student who drowned

Noah Pell's passion for baseball lives on at a $300,000 facility that was dedicated in his honor on Monday.
Noah Field was built to honor Noah Pell, a nine-year-old who died last year on a fishing trip with his grandfather.

McKINNEY Noah Pell was just nine years old when he drowned at Lavon Lake on a fishing trip with his grandfather in January of last year.

But Noah's passion for baseball lives on at a diamond that was dedicated Monday in his honor.

Noah Field at McKinney Christian Academy was built with $300,000 in donations raised in six months by classmates.

He loved baseball like no other little boy I'd ever seen, said his mom, Deora Pell.

Family members threw out the first pitch at Noah Field Monday, a touching tribute to his memory.

When the donations started coming in, and we imagined the field, this is not what we imagined, Deora Pell said. We imagined a backstop and some dirt. So to see all of this and all of the donations that came in, and all the work that went into it, it's just absolutely amazing.

Noah's dad, Mike Pell, was coaching one of the teams playing in the inaugural game at the field named after his son.

I'm sure he is smiling down upon this; no doubt about it, Pell said.
