DALLAS - A man convicted of being the ringleader of what prosecutors called a "gang of thieves" responsible for dozens of burglaries in Uptown was sentenced Monday to 65 years in prison.
Damon West was convicted last week of engaging in organized crime that involved burglarizing the homes of at least 50 people, many in the Uptown area of Dallas. The burglars often drilled holes in doors to gain access and spent hours or days going through belongings.
Defense attorneys had been asking for probation, saying an addiction to methamphetamine led him to commit the crimes.
