LEWISVILLE, Texas — A 40-year-old man was found shot and killed in Lewisville, and police say his landlord is the suspect, according to a release from officials Wednesday.
Marco Polo Hernandez-Mejia was identified as the man who was found dead in a backyard in the 800 block of Harbor Drive in Lewisville on Sunday.
Police said Hernandez-Mejia's landlord is "the main suspect," but they did not identify him. The suspect was still wanted Wednesday.
Police began investigating the case Saturday, after they got a call from police in Glenn Heights, south of Dallas. Officers there had responded to a report of an abandoned vehicle. A nearby resident saw a driver leave the vehicle in the area, police said. When officers arrived, they saw that the ignition "had been tampered with" and they believed it to be stolen, according to the release.
Because the car was registered to a man in Lewisville, police Lewisville were notified.
Lewisville police went to the car owners home on Harbor Drive and spoke with a woman who confirmed the car belonged to her husband. The woman also told police that her husband didn't pick her up from work that night and that she hadn't heard from him.
The next day, Lewisville police went back to the home on Harbor Drive, where the woman still hadn't heard from her husband.
The woman told police that she and her husband rent out several rooms in their house and that her husband on Saturday had planned to evict a tenant, Hernandez-Mejia, the release said.
Officers searched the home and found Hernandez-Mejia's body in the backyard. He had been shot multiple times, police said.
Investigators are still working to learn what happened between the two men that led to the shooting, police said.
More information about the case and the suspect has not been released.
