MANSFIELD, Texas — A pair of earthquakes were detected near Mansfield in Tarrant County Wednesday afternoon, according to officials.
A 3.0 earthquake and a 3.2-scale earthquake were picked up shortly after 1 p.m. on the U.S. Geological Survey's (USGS) earthquake map.
The USGS map said the earthquakes were detected just over four miles southwest of Mansfield, which is located in southeastern Tarrant County. Both were about five kilometers deep, according to the USGS.
A 3.0-3.2 earthquake is on the smaller end of the Richter scale but big enough for people near the epicenter to feel it.
Mansfield police told WFAA there were no reports of injuries or damages, but they were receiving several calls of people asking if it was an earthquake. Police said they felt the earthquake at the public safety building, which "shook a little."
USGS officials said there were reports of very light shaking within approximately 10 miles of the earthquakes, but the shaking most likely was too small to have been felt in the larger metro areas of Dallas-Fort Worth.
In December 2023, a 2.2-scale earthquake happened in Denton County, but it wasn't clear if the earthquake was felt. Quakes in the 2.0 range on the Richter scale are considered minor and may only be felt slightly.
