LAREDO, Texas — U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CPB) officers arrested 25-year-old Jaime Ruiz Villanueva in Laredo Wednesday for multiple alleged violent crimes and drug-related felonies.

According to CPB, officers at the Gateway to Americas Bridge made Villanueva, who is a U.S. citizen, go to a secondary inspection and they were able to use biometric verification and federal law enforcement databases to learn that he had multiple outstanding warrants.

CBP said Villanueva had a warrant with the Fort Worth Police Department for murder, another for a probation violation on a possession of controlled substance charge from the Midland County Sheriff's Office and one for assault causing bodily injury to a family member from the Dallas County Sheriff's Office.

According to CPB, Villanueva was arrested and taken to Webb County jail and is awaiting criminal proceedings.

“The safety of our communities remains our priority,” said Port Director Albert Flores, Laredo Port of Entry. “CBP officers successfully apprehended a dangerous individual and collaborated with several law enforcement agencies to bring him to justice.”
