DALLAS — As travel woes continue for many in Dallas and across the country, a North Texas couple looking to get one of their first out-of-town experiences together are hoping and trying to figure out if it will happen.
A day after most U.S. airlines had recovered from the storm, Southwest scrubbed 2,500 flights for Wednesday and nearly 1,200 for Thursday as it tried to restore order to its mangled schedule.
Two of the people impacted by those cancellations are Dallas husband and wife Redmon and Jackie Fulton. While Jackie Fulton has been a Dallas Cowboys fan since she was a little girl, Redmon Fulton grew up a Houston Oilers fan. That franchise is now the Tennessee Titans, which he has become a fan of.
While these two have been to a ton of Cowboys home games together, they've never been to a road game. So with the Cowboys playing the Titans in Nashville, they decided three months ago to make this a new, first-time experience.
"Man, I have been waiting on this day to come," Redmon Fulton said.
"I kept checking the weather like, 'Oh, please don't cancel flights, please don't cancel flights for the snow,'" Jackie Fulton said, talking about what she has been doing every day since they bought their tickets.
Tuesday morning, these two woke up to a message from Southwest Airlines saying their flight had been canceled.
"This is unacceptable for a big company like this," Jackie Fulton said. "We've pretty much paid for everything. And now this."
They first tried to call Southwest airlines, but they said after trying for hours with no luck, they decided to go up to Love Field to try and get some answers.
They stood in line for hours.
"It's just unacceptable for a big company just to cancel like this," Jackie Fulton said.
Jackie and Redmon Fulton said if they aren't able to re-book a flight by the end of Tuesday, they are going to start considering driving to Nashville on Wednesday to make it in time for the game on Thursday.
I don't want to have to drive 10 hours to Tennessee and then drive 10 hours back," Jackie Fulton. "But I need to see the Cowboys. That is an option."
"We have to put a plan together and see what we're going to do," Jackie Fulton said. "We really want to see this game."
