FORT WORTH, Texas — The Fort Worth Independent School District will offer free dinners to students at most schools for the upcoming school year.

The district announced the program Monday as a partnership with food supplier Sodexo.

Any campus in the district that offers an after-school enrichment program will feature the program. Even if students are not enrolled in the after-school activities their school offers, they will still be able to receive a free dinner if they are present at school that day.

“We are looking forward to an exciting year of positively impacting the lives of our students every day,” Executive Director of Child Nutrition Services Pamela Watson said. “Our partnership with Sodexo embodies the spirit of collaboration with the goal of creating a thriving learning environment."

Meals will be served 15 minutes after the end of the school day. The dinner options will meet the five requirements for a reimbursable meal, including a grain, meat or meat alternative, fruit, vegetable and dairy.

“We are excited about the opportunities this partnership with Sodexo provides. We know that nutrition is an integral part of the learning process, and we are committed to ensuring that our students have access to healthy menu options that taste great for breakfast, lunch, and dinner,” Deputy Superintendent Kellie Spencer said.

The Fort Worth district heads back to class Aug. 13.
