RAINS COUNTY, Texas — A lineman died while working to restore power in Rains County Tuesday afternoon.
Scott Balentine, a lineman for Farmers Electric Cooperative, passed away around 4 p.m. on Tuesday while working in Rains County. He was taken to the hospital but did not survive, the cooperative based out of Greenville said in a news release.
Farmers Electric Cooperative said the group is continuing to gather information to determine what caused Balentine's death. His cause of death has not been determined yet.
“This is a very sad time for everyone who knew Scott. He was not just a colleague, but a friend. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this incredibly difficult time.” Mark Stubbs, general manager of Farmers Electric Cooperative, said.
New Hope Baptist Church in Lone Oak, which is Balentine's in-laws' church, said funeral services will be held June 4 at Highland Terrace Baptist Church, located at 3939 Joe Ramsey Blvd E. in Greenville. The visitation will be held at 10 a.m. and the service will follow at 11 a.m. He leaves behind his wife and young daughter.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the Balentine family. The goal was just to reach $5,000, but within two days the fundraiser has already brought in over $11,000.
The description called Balentine a beloved husband, father, brother, son, uncle and friend to many people.
"He was somebody to everybody. Please consider donating so that we can make their lives a little easier during an extremely difficult time. All proceeds will be sent directly to Hali and Aubrey to help take off some of the stress in the upcoming days," the description read.
