Semi-truck fire, fuel spill shut down I-35E through Lewisville, officials say

Multiple lanes of I-35E were blocked by the crash near Valley Ridge Boulevard, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.

LEWISVILLE, Texas — A semi-truck fire and fuel spill shut down the main lanes of Interstate 35E near the Lewisville Lake bridge for several hours Saturday morning, officials said.

Multiple lanes of I-35E were blocked by the crash near Valley Ridge Boulevard, according to the Texas Department of Transportation. Traffic cameras in the area showed crews responding to a crashed vehicle that appeared to be smoking.

Lewisville officials around 8 a.m. confirmed that the main and express lanes were closed in both directions while crews responded to the fire and fuel spill on the highway.

By 11 a.m., two of the southbound main lanes of the highway had reopened, and one northbound lane was open. But crews were still working to clear the scene, and officials cautioned that delays could still be lengthy.

Officials said the crash happened in the southbound express lanes but caused lanes in both directions to be closed. Access roads along the highway remained open, but traffic was moving slowly.

There were no initial reports of major injuries or fatalities, officials said.

More information was not immediately available.
