Last-minute Christmas shoppers across North Texas face long lines, hectic scenes, inflation and thieves

Procrastinators beware: Tempers are flaring, stress is high and the crowds are thick at malls and big box stores across North Texas heading into the holiday.

DALLAS — Droves of North Texas took advantage of "Super Saturday" to finish their holiday shopping this year, but some say dealing with the crowds just isn't worth the effort,

"The holiday shopping rush like it is, I typically try to avoid it," said Dallas shopper Chris Riley outside of the Target at Dallas' CityPlace.

He's not alone in wishing he hadn't procrastinated his gift-finding this year.

“There’s just so many people, and it’s very crowded," said shopper Nikki DeKock. "I was also at the mall, and it was very hectic."

DeKock was one of hundreds of people crowding CityPlace on Saturday, searching for gifts. No surprise there: More than 140 million people across the country were predicted to wrap up their gift purchases on Saturday before the big Christmas holiday.

"I procrastinate things," DeKock said with a shrug.

Meanwhile, online sales continue to offer additional options for buyers.

“I’ve done pick up in store, I’ve done ship to home, I’ve done drive up and pick-up,” said Veronica Lang, who was able to finally finish her Christmas list on Saturday. “I would prefer the online shopping -- not so much online-to-ship, but if you buy online and pick it up at the store, you get a lot more discounts.”

That's important to shoppers like Eli Mabli, who say inflation and rising prices have definitely added to the stress this year.

“I think everything in general is going up," Mabli said. "It’s really hard to find anything that was as cheap as it used to be."
