FORT WORTH, Texas — Ahead of the 2024 MLB All-Star Weekend, which is being hosted at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Major League Baseball and the Texas Rangers unveiled a mural created by a local artist that pays homage to the evolution of Latino and Latina baseball and softball players.
The mural was created by Fort Worth artist Juan Velasquez and placed in the community at Artes de La Rosa Cultural Center for the Arts.
"You have to dream big," Velasquez said in a message to the youth.
Velasquez said he started his art career four years ago after losing his job during the COVID-19 pandemic, which pushed him to pursue art full-time.
"It's such a joy to get up and do something that your love," Velasquez added. "So, dream big. Anybody can do anything if you really try to do it. No dream is too big if you put in the effort to do it."
Velasquez said that's what the mural is for: To inspire the Latin youth to dream big and not hesitate to pursue those dreams.
"I just want to thank the Texas Rangers and Major League Baseball for the opportunity," Velasquez said. "This means a lot to me."
Velasquez it was an honor to work on the project as a resident Rangers fan.
