KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — Two officers were shot and a man was killed in a shooting at a gas station in Forney, police said Saturday.
The shooting happened at an Exxon gas station along FM 741 between Crandall, Texas and Forney, Texas.
Crandall police said officers received a "panic alarm" at approximately 3:09 a.m. and arrived at the scene at approximately 3:12 a.m. According to Crandall PD and the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office, they made contact with the man, were fired upon and two officers were hit: a Crandall police officer and a Kaufman County Sheriff's Office deputy.
Officers returned fire, police said, and the man was struck.
Crandall police said officers attempted life-saving measures on the suspect, but the man did not survive.
The Kaufman County Sheriff's Office said both officers were shot in the leg and taken to Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas with non-life-threatening injuries. As of Sunday, Aug. 11 the two officers were released from the hospital.
The Texas Rangers responded to the scene and are investigating the officer-involved shooting, police said.
