BUFFALO, NY-- Buffalo Sabres forward Evander Kane will face non-criminal harassment charges connected to an incident last month at a local bar, according to his attorney Paul Cambria.
The information was first reported by the Buffalo News.
A police source tells 2 On Your Side's Scott Brown, that no charges have been filed at this point, but are expected sometime next week.
The source tells us that police still have at least one other person to interview, and that it is possible Kane could also facing additional charges.
Kane was named in preliminary police reports connected to an altercation that took place last month at the Bottoms Up nightclub on Chippewa Street in Downtown Buffalo.
Kane denies any wrong-doing in the incident. In a text message to Scott Brown, Cambria says, "I am tired of these so-called anonymous sources who make these inflammatory claims. It's just wrong."
2 On Your Side asked a local attorney Tom Eoannou, who is not affiliated with this case, what it means to face a "non-criminal charge".
"It's not a crime, it's not a felony, it's not a misdemeanor, it's a criminal law violation," Eoannnou says.
Scott Brown: "If the police report is accurate and what the women are saying is accurate, why wouldn't this rise to the level of a criminal procedure?"
"Simple answer- no injury. It is a kick, shove or punch that did not result in an injury, therefore it's not a crime, it's not assault in the third degree," said Eoannou.
