WICHITA, Kansas -- While drug charges against Dallas Cowboys running back Joseph Randle have been dropped, his ex-girlfriend and mother of two his children filed a petition this week for a Protection From Abuse Order against him.
Police explain dropping the drug charge now gives investigators the chance to present all potential charges to the district attorney at the same time.
On Feb. 2, Randle was arrested in his hometown of Wichita, Kansas, after officers responded to a domestic violence call at a Wichita hotel.
His ex-girlfriend, Dalia Jacobs, states in the petition that Randle had become angry with her in front of their son, so she asked her friend to take the child outside. The friend got into her car and placed the boy in the passenger seat.
"The defendant walked to his vehicle and retrieved a handgun. He then proceeded to approach the vehicle and point the gun at my friend in the vehicle," Jacobs stated for the petition.
She says Randle then told the friend he was going to "blast the vehicle" and smashed in the window, shattering glass over the woman and child inside the car.
A woman claiming to be Jacobs' friend posted a video on YouTube detailing what she says she saw.
"Joseph, in turn, came downstairs and punched out the window," Amanda Edwards said in the video. "Mind you, he had no idea his son was in the car."
She defends Randle and claims he never waved a weapon.
"There was not gun," she said. "I mean, I don't know where the gun came into the picture."
Wichita police say there was a gun, but a friend of Randle's left the scene with it before police arrived.
Police were initially told Jacobs was injured, but police say they found no injuries on Jacobs and only arrested Randle for marijuana possession and releasing him at the scene with a citation.
News 8 contacted Randle and he told us there was no violence.
Jacobs added that Randle has a temper and gets angry "very quickly." She also says he has physically and emotionally abused her in the past and has threatened to take their son away from her.
There are questions as to why Randle was not arrested for domestic violence. Police say they are still looking into what happened that night.
Randle has already been fined once by the Dallas Cowboys for shoplifting cologne and underwear at a department store in Frisco last October.
Randle was drafted from Oklahoma State University in 2013 by the Cowboys. He has two years remaining on his contract with the team.
