DALLAS — The trial in the sexual assault lawsuit against Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones is delayed until next year, court records show.
Dallas County District Judge Aiesha Redmond this week re-set the trial to March 3, 2025, court records show.
The lawsuit was initially filed in Dallas County in September 2020 against Jones and the Dallas Cowboys by a woman using the pseudonym Jane Doe, who alleged in the lawsuit that Jones forcibly grabbed her and kissed her on the mouth in September 2018. The initial lawsuit didn’t detail where the alleged incident happened, but in a refiled version of the lawsuit, she alleged it happened in the Tom Landry room at AT&T Stadium.
Jones, in court filings, has denied the allegations and called the lawsuit “frivolous."
The lawsuit was dismissed in February 2022, but a state appellate court reversed that decision in February 2023, allowing it to continue. Jones' legal team appealed that decision in May, but the Supreme Court of Texas Sept. 1 denied that appeal, allowing it to continue again.
The trial was supposed to begin March 18, court records show. Jones’ legal team requested the trial be pushed to March 2025 to allow them time to conduct discovery, gather information, and prepare for trial, alleging in court filings that the woman sought "to tell an unchecked narrative without facing the scrutiny of proper discovery."
The woman’s attorney, Thomas Bowers, said his client is ready for trial.
