FORT WORTH, Texas — Garrett Beck would have never predicted what happened during his work shift Thursday morning.
The electrician and his coworker were traveling southbound on Interstate 35 near Basswood Blvd when lightning hit their work truck.
“I’ve never thought about getting hit by lightning,” Beck said in an interview with WFAA.
Dashcam video provided to Beck by Cody Currens captured the moment the lightning strike touched down, impacting the vehicle.
“We were just listening to the radio, and then just a huge noise, everything went white, and I saw some sparks shoot off the ladder rack,” Beck said.
At the moment, the River Oaks resident wasn’t sure what had happened.
“It happened, like that, really fast,” Beck said. “The electronics were freaking out. The horn just started going off and wouldn’t shut off. My initial reaction was cuss words… look in my rearview mirror trying to figure out if I got hit by a car.”
The truck, which broke down a few minutes later, suffered several dents and is out of commission.
Thankfully, Beck and his coworker were not injured, and he still got through his entire shift.
“Not even my hair stuck up didn’t feel anything at all,” Beck said. “Crazy stuff happens to me for some reason. Life’s crazy and unpredictable.”
