MANSFIELD, Texas — Ask a Rangers fan who went to Globe Life Field this season to name their club MVP and you might hear a few different answers.

Corey Seager. Adolis Garcia. Marcus Semien. Hurtado Barbecue.

Wait, what?

Indeed, Hurtado's left-field concourse concession stand commanded LONG lines for most Rangers home games, especially in the playoffs, when they unveiled the "Heim Hammer," a ridiculously large beef shank with all fixings.

But the Rangers games are just a portion of what Hurtado serves up in North Texas, and now their footprint is expanding.

Hurtado announced plans to open a new restaurant location soon in Mansfield, joining their already-existing locations in Fort Worth and Arlington.

Founder Brandon Hurtado told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram's Bud Kennedy that he bought the Big B Barbecue location, a barbecue restaurant at 226 N. Walnut Creek Drive.

"We are proud to announce that we will soon be opening in Mansfield to serve south Tarrant county some incredible Mexicue!" Hurtado posted on Facebook. "Thank you to Big D Barbecue for passing the torch."

Hurtado hasn't set an opening date for the Mansfield location. In the meantime, you can check out their Arlington spot at 205 E. Front Street, and the Fort Worth spot at 1116 8th Ave.

WFAA featured Hurtado in 2021 as part of our story about the growing "Mexicue" culinary scene in North Texas. In 2020, Hurtado's barbacoa tostada landed on a Texas Monthly best-of list.

“Mexicue to me is the distinct combination of Texas barbecue and Tex-Mex,” Hurtado told us at the time.

“I come from a Hispanic background. I grew up eating refried beans and tortillas every day. And, my dad loved to barbecue. So when I got older those two things seemed to really mesh for me.”
