DALLAS — One of the more popular barbecue restaurants in North Texas -- especially if you happen to find yourself hungry at a Texas Rangers game -- is coming to downtown Dallas.
Hurtado Barbecue is opening a location at the Dallas Farmers Market, the restaurant confirmed on social media Monday.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that Hurtado, known for its blend of craft barbecue and Tex-Mex flavor, will take over a space at 900 S. Harwood St. in a corner restaurant space at the farmers market.
An exact opening date was not announced.
"We believe the downtown Dallas/Farmers Market area is the next step in our small business’s story," Hurtado owners told WFAA in a statement. "Our goal is to bring more jobs and great Tex-Mex barbecue to Dallas proper, while investing back into the communities who’ve helped us grow from a pop-up barbecue concept to where we are today."
Hurtado already has locations in Arlington, Fort Worth and Mansfield. But their most high-profile spot might be at Globe Life Field, where they're one of the local offerings at the ballpark.
And amid a sea of concession stands, Hurtado usually stands out, with long lines across the concourse above left field.
Hurtado has all the barbecue staples -- brisket, pulled pork, spare ribs -- plus their own twists on the menu: birria tacos, Mexican cornbread, brisket tostada, and Mexican street corn.
Hurtado in 2021 was named among the top 50 barbecue joints in Texas by Texas Monthly.
Here's what the magazine had to say:
The menu at this joint that serves "Central Texas-style barbecue with a Tex-Mex twist” includes such unusual fare as pork belly burnt ends and quail. If you can’t make up your mind, order the El Jefe Platter, a sampling of six meats that includes tender brisket, sweetly glazed pork ribs, and very juicy turkey. If you’re feeling more adventurous, the Big Red barbacoa tostada delivers smoked beef cheeks braised in the Waco-born soft drink and topped with beef-tallow refried beans, salsa verde, Valentina hot sauce, cotija cheese, cilantro, and raw white onions. The desserts rotate; if you get a chance, try the Mexican bread pudding garnished with pork belly burnt ends. Plan for a nap
Their new location in Dallas will be their first foray outside of Tarrant County. The Dallas Farmers Market is located on the southeast side of downtown, near Interstate 30 and Cesar Chavez Boulevard. The market's main building currently has numerous restaurants and food stands, including Taqueria La Ventana, Ginzaro Sushi, Rex's Seafood and American Butchers.
