Atmos said construction crews damaged a natural gas pipeline, leading to the leak. Oncor said it also turned off power to a number of homes as repairs were underway.

MCKINNEY, Texas — A gas leak led to the evacuation of 14 homes in McKinney for a few hours on Thursday afternoon, fire officials said.

Shortly after 5 p.m., the McKinney Fire Department said that the leak had been capped, allowing for residents to return to their homes.

According to Atmos Energy, a precautionary evacuation was put in place after a construction crew working near the the 1100 block of Anthony Street, located to the southeast of Downtown McKinney, damaged a natural gas pipeline.

Oncor told WFAA that it was asked to shut off electricity off to the block as crews from the McKinney Fire Department and Atmos Energy made repairs to the damage. Oncor did not say how many customers had their power shut off.

After capping the league, the McKinney Fire Department said it had given Oncor the OK to restore power to the area.
