Homes, businesses without power in Frisco after a transformer catches fire, officials say

At one point about 2,500 customers were in the dark including businesses like The STAR, Omni and Dr Pepper.

FRISCO, Texas — Several homes and businesses are without power Thursday afternoon due to a transformer catching on fire, according to the Frisco Fire Department.

At about 2 p.m. firefighters responded to a grass fire in the the 3900 block of Legacy Drive. When they arrived they found an underground electrical transformer on fire, Frisco FD said.

As a result of the electrical fire, the department also responded to two elevator rescues in buildings in the area.

At one point about 2,500 customers were in the dark including businesses like The STAR, Omni and Dr Pepper. As of 3:30 p.m., nearly 200 customers are without power.

Oncor expects power to be restored by 5:30 p.m. at the Ford Center and power for surrounding areas should be fixed by 7 p.m.
