ROCKWALL, Texas — A student at Rockwall High School was injured during what police called an 'encounter' with a school resource officer on Wednesday.

On Sept. 11, around 1:30 pm, the Rockwall Police Department School Resource Officers assigned to Rockwall High School assisted school staff with a disturbance on its campus, police said in a news release.

During the department's investigation, the student resisted the detention which required the officer to intervene, police said. The student suffered an injury in the process, Rockwall PD said. Pictures of the student's injury have been posted and shared on social media.

After the incident, Rockwall PD said it received a complaint citing excessive force was used during the encounter. The department said it was investigating the complaint.

Rockwall ISD told WFAA on Thursday that "School Resource Officers in Rockwall ISD are not employees of the District."

"While there is no legal requirement and in the interest of transparency, the Rockwall Police Department has requested the Texas Rangers Division of the Texas Department of Public Safety to conduct the investigation," the department said.
