Driver dies after car crashes into pillar on SH 114, Grapevine police say

Police say they got 911 calls about the crash at 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday.

GRAPEVINE, Texas — Grapevine police are investigating a crash that killed a man on State Highway 114 Wednesday afternoon.

According to police, 911 calls started coming in at 1:15 p.m. 

First responders were told that a car crashed into an underpass support pillar on westbound East State Highway 114 under Texan Trail. Police said bystanders had removed the driver from the vehicle and began performing CPR.

First responder got to the scene and took the victim to the hospital. Police said he was pronounced dead at 1:46 p.m.

The victim was said to be a 77-year-old man who lived in Grapevine. His name will not be public until his loved ones have been notified.

Investigators believe the driver veered onto the right side of the rode, struck the guardrail and light pole, then ran into the support pillar. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Police said part of the guardrail and the light pole were damaged, but no one else was involved in the crash.

The roadway closed for about an hour for officials to investigate the accident and clean up the debris.
