Driver dies in Grand Prairie crash possibly after speeding, police say

The victim will not be identified until his loved ones have been notified.

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas — A man was pronounced dead on the scene of a crash in Grand Prairie Sunday afternoon, according to police.

The crash happened just before 4 p.m. at the intersection of Belt Line and Hunter Ferrell Roads.

In a news release, police said a GMC SUV was going north on Belt Line when it struck a semi tractor-trailer that was turning south from Hunter Ferrell.

Police said they were told by witnesses that the SUV was "driving at excessive speeds" and had ran a red light before crashing into the trailer.

Police said the victim is an adult male, but his identity will not be released until his loved ones have been notifieid.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured and is not expected be charged for the crash, police said. 

The incident remains under investigation. No other information is available at this time.
