GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas — A Grand Prairie homeowner shot and killed a man who attempted to rob the homeowner early Monday morning, Grand Prairie police said.

Around 1 a.m., 20-year-old Rayme Castilleja broke into a home in the 2000 block of Plains Court, an address police say he specifically targeted to rob.

When the homeowner heard the break-in, they grabbed a firearm and shot Castilleja, police said.

Castilleja drove away from the house and ended up at the Baylor Scott & White Emergency Hospital on Kingswood Boulevard, where he died from his gunshot wounds.

Police are investigating the case as a homicide and will turn the case over to a Tarrant County grand jury, as is procedure.
