2-year-old girl dies after being attacked by 3 dogs, Houston police say

Investigators said the dogs attacked the girl inside the babysitter's home.

HOUSTON — Police are investigating the death of a 2-year-old girl after she was attacked by three Rottweiler dogs at a north Houston home on Monday.

This happened at 12:20 p.m. at a home on Milwaukee Street near Gold Street just inside the 610 North Loop.

The identity and cause of death of the young girl is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

Houston police said officers responded to a vicious animal call at the home and found that the child had been attacked by the three dogs. Houston firefighters also responded to the scene and took her to Texas Children's Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Investigators said the dogs attacked the girl inside the babysitter's home.

A woman at the home said the girl was a relative of the people who live there.

Meanwhile, neighbors reacted to the tragic news.

"Honestly, I cried," Deja Thomas said.

Thomas has two small children herself.

"I’m not scared of dogs, but I’m scared for my kids to be around them," Thomas said. "So, I don’t know how she got that close for even, that to happen.”

BARC said the owners surrendered the dogs which were humanely euthanized.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information on this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600.
